Digital Protection Lenses

Digital Protection Lenses. Blue light blocking glasses.

Digital protection lenses, also known as blue light blocking lenses, offer a shield that reduces glare and filters the blue light from digital screens and artificial light.

It seems everyone is staring at a computer screen, phone or other digital device these days. And it’s causing a serious problem called digital eye strain.

Recent research sponsored by The Vision Council has shown that nearly 70% of American adults who routinely use computers and digital devices experience symptoms of digital eye strain (also called computer eye strain or computer vision syndrome). Symptoms of computer vision syndrome include: eye fatigue and discomfort, dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, neck and shoulder pain, eye twitching and red eyes.

The problem with Artificial Blue Light

Most of us are now continuously connected to our digital technologies. This could contribute to headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision and eyestrain. The high-energy visible (HEV) artificial blue light has been observed to contribute to retinal cell damage in high doses. Artificial light can also decrease contrast that can lead to eyestrain.

How Do Digital Protection Lenses Work?

The majority of blue light is emitted from the sun, but the introduction of digital devices into our everyday lives has increased our exposure overall. BlueReflect™ Lenses use a special coating to reflect the blue light emitted by digital devices and artificial light. This coating also incorporates scratch resistant and anti-glare benefits, giving you clearer vision while using digital devices.

Although these specialized lenses are similar to clear lenses, and can be worn indoors and outside, they have an additional benefit for activities related to digital screen usage.

Protection for all ages

Digital protection lenses are available for adults and children, whether you need a prescription or not, on your perfect pair of glasses. It is not only adults that are exposed to artificial blue light. The Vision Council reports that 1 in 4 kids spend more than three hours a day using digital devices. In addition to ensuring children are getting regular eye examinations and taking breaks from digital technologies, BlueReflect ™ and SightRelax lenses can offer an added filter to young eyes while devices are in use.

With protective technologies, blue-light blocking glasses can reduce the impact of blue light and digital eye strain. They can help alleviate the discomfort from too much time on devices, improve sleep and reduce the likelihood of AMD.

Here are a few benefits to wearing blue-light glasses:

Benefit 1: Relieve eye discomfort with blue-light blocking glasses

Excess device usage can lead to computer vision syndrome or digital eye strain. Glasses with blue light filtering technology can enhance your focus and reduce eye strain, resulting in making your eyes feel less tired and improving productivity. Another way to reduce eye strain is to make sure you take regular breaks from the screen.

Benefit 2: Sleep better with blue-light blocking glasses

One of the more surprising impacts of exposure to screens is the potential to negatively affect sleep patterns. Blue light has a high energy frequency that can increase alertness and delay the body’s release of melatonin, which helps induce sleep. In general, we should all avoid using blue-light devices one to two hours before sleep. Blue-light blocking glasses can reduce the impact blue light, enabling you to use your devices before bed and still get a good night’s sleep. However, the best option is to put the screen down before it’s time for bed.

Benefit 3: Blue-light blocking glasses can help reduce the likelihood of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

AMD is a leading cause of blindness. Blue-light blocking lenses can help avoid or delay this condition by preventing blue light from impacting your eyes.
